Intent:

Reduce atmospheric emissions associated with the disposal of solid waste and promote renewable and low-carbon intensity alternatives to non-renewable transportation fuels

Requirements:

Demonstrate, on a percentage basis, the use of renewable or low-emission fuels in the on-site vehicles. The percentage of alternative fuel use can be determined on the basis of either the fraction of the vehicle fleet or the fraction of annual miles traveled.

Tier 1: 30 percent or more of rolling stock or other onsite fossil fuel powered process equipment uses alternative fuels. Can be evaluated by percentage of equipment or percentage of utilization.

Tier 2: 60 percent or more of rolling stock or other onsite fossil fuel powered process equipment uses alternative fuels. Can be evaluated by percentage of equipment or percentage of utilization.

  • Direct or indirect (e.g. LFG biogas co-generated electricity) utilization of landfill gas (LFG) or anaerobic digester gas (biogas) for vehicles counts as 1.5X other types of alternative fueled vehicles.

Potential Strategies

  • Utilize landfill methane or natural gas
  • Utilize natural gas
  • Digester methane as alternative fuel
  • Solar Powered
  • Diesel Hybrids
  • MRF Energy consumption
  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
    • Prevention and/or mitigation of compost emissions
    • Landfill Emission Intensity

    Eliminate as a potential strategies:
    MRF Energy Consumption
    Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
Prevention and/or mitigation of compost emissions
    Landfill Emission Intensity

Add Digester methane as an alternative fuel
Clarify difference between landfill methane and natural gas e.g.
    Utilize landfill or digester methane
    Utilize natural gas
